             WHERE DO I START?
How Much do I Store??

Food for One Person For One Year

Picture
Most of us are shocked to see a comprehensive one year food supply list-I know I was!  We are so used to running to the store several times a week and buying what we need right then, that no thought is ever given to how much food we actually ingest in an entire year.
I am giving this generally accepted preparedness list so that you can realize that a few cans of tuna and some soup will not last long unless you think a three day weekend is all you need to prepare for.  Food shortages are on the way and possibly a long term famine.

HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO STORE FOR MY FAMILY?
The experts at the FDA have said that the average adult will consume the following amounts of fresh food per year and this does not include vegetables.
1 Adult for One Year
Meat--150-200 pounds per year.
Flour--200-300 pounds  (bulk wheat, rye, spelt, oats)
Sugar or Honey--60 pounds
Fat or Oils--60 pounds
Salt--5 pounds
Powdered Milk--75 pounds

Some examples of dried foods and grains and their life expectancy:

Preparing for a small group or a big family?  You will need bulk grains like wheat, rye and oats.  And you will need a good grain ginder.  A good grinder will give you the ability to barter your grinding service for items you need.  Many grains are available from farm stores, health food stores and Amish stores.  Keep in mind that flour loses all nutritional value in just 3 days after being ground.  That is why most bread items purchased today are just adding empty calories and are no longer "the staff of life".

You will need bulk grains and a manual grain grinder

All of these items can be purchased at your regular grocery store or at commercial suppliers, although some will need to be re-packaged for long-term storage.    Divide amounts below by 12 to get a one month supply.  The list above is on average what a one year survival supply would look like for one
person.

If time is short and you have not begun to start your food storage, you would be wise to purchase a basic pack of long term survival meals such as those by GO Foods which are featured on our site and then you can add items from the grocery store that are needed.  All GoFood meals are designed to be stretched to feed more by adding cans of tomatoes, or pasta or rice, etc.  These delicious and nutritious meals start as low as .60 (sixty cents) per meal/serving and go up to $1.95 depending on the quantity purchased at one time. You can order 12 free meals and 3 beverage samples by going to "Time Is Short" Long Term Food reserves. There you can order the free meals.

Food Shortages Coming to the USA?

Picture
Food shortages now hitting hard around the globe.  40% rise in global food prices hitting the poor the hardest but can it happen in the USA?  It already has.  In the 1930's, 7 million Americans died from lack of food and nutrition.  Don't wait for a crisis to get started-it's better to be a year too soon than a day too late.  Watch video clip on How to Best Store Food for Long Term Survival using pails and mylar bags.
