GETTING BACK TO BASICS

BLESSING OF THE WHEAT

Getting back to basics

Not so very long ago, we, our parents and ancestors,  lived day to day by reaping the benefits of our labor. We grew the food in our backyard gardens, raised our chickens and traded with others for what we did not produce ourselves.   We made the lumber to build our homes. We sewed the clothing that protected us from the weather.
The current state of affairs in our country and around the world, should be a red flag for all of us that these skills may be required to survive the upcoming years. Our monetary system, reliance on other countries for energy, threats of terrorism and so many other aspects of our lives are shaky at best. We seem to be hanging by a thread. What will happen to us if these things become truly unstable or completely collapse?

Looking at our own lives, life just got to a point where we were sick and tired of being sick and tired--tired of the urban rat race.  As soon as feasible, we took steps to get out of the city and start over in a more relaxed, small town, country  environment. Our only regret is that we wish we had done it sooner!  Where ever you find yourself living right now-today, you can do something to prepare.  NOW is time to do what you can to become more independent and less dependent on the "just in time" grocery store chains, mega-home improvement stores and the government.  Even if you live in a large city in a small apartment, you can begin.  Make it a priority to do something everyday even if you think you are "stuck" where you are.  Taking small steps each day will give you a sense of success and independence. As Nike says, "Just Do It"!
